Hiking level: Moderate. Some trails have steep drop-offs but are well maintained though you've got to be sure footed.

Appenzell has very distinct traditions that only can be experienced here and nowhere else in Switzerland. The canton is known for its lush and exquisite green landscape and is dominated by the Alpstein massif with towering limestone pinnacles and its highest peak, Mount Säntis. You'll hike on panoramic trails with stunning views as far as Liechtenstein, Austria and Germany. You'll overnight in mountain huts and hotels and ones even on a working farm. The last day is crowned by a guided eBike ride through the lush Appenzell landscape with a stop at a cheese dairy to fill up on calories.
